Does Your Online Store Work for You?
Mar 22nd
Are you considering having your own store online? It’s a great way to make money. Not only will the store “sell” for you, it will do it 24/7. All day, all night, weekends and holidays. This is one of the reasons that online commerce is so attractive. If you set it up properly, it can be almost all automated, and takes very little maintenance.
If you’re going to have your own “store” online, you will need a platform to hold it. There are hundreds of these available, so you’ll need to so some searching, and learning before choosing one. Be sure to check out forums, and whatever others are saying. One of the worst things you can do is choose the wrong platform, and then after you’ve spent countless hours setting up everything, you find out that it just will not do what you need it to do. This happened to me when I purchased from Stores Online. I spoke to at least 3 different salemen before purchasing, and outlined my ideas and desires. Each one assured me that I had great ideas, and that their product would work flawlessly to make it happen. Huh. Not so. Not true at all. If I had gone online and researched the forums before shelling out thousands, I could have saved not only the money, but months of frustration and wasted time as well.
One platform that I have become aware of for holding your online store is Vidax. They know what they’re doing. If you have an online store that is not functioning for you, and you need to change, these guys are specialists in ecommerce website redesign. They will take your old site, and redesign it on their platform so that it works like you need it to. If you have a Yahoo store, check them out because they have done zillions (ok, a lot) of yahoo store redesign. You can also check out how their prices compare to the Yahoo Store fees.
So, even if you have made a serious mistake, like I did, you can still get personalized help. Once you’ve worked with these guys, they treat you like family, so you’ll be ok.
Cash Sweepstakes and other Online Possibilities
Mar 19th
As always, I’m on the lookout for ways to make money online. Most of them require quite a learning curve. I’ve bought people’s products and spent months learning the ins and outs of the software, doing just what I’ve been told, and then, after months of effort, and added expense, find out that it’s going to cost me even more to continue, without getting anything in return first. It’s a long haul.
There are ways to make money out there, and they do show themselves if you keep at it. You can always sell someone else’s products as an affiliate, and that’s often the first thing you’ll hear about when you start to look. The problem with that is the word “sell”. That one word is what internet marketing is all about, and it encompasses absolutely everything on the net.
People are making money via affiliate products, and by marketing their own stuff, and by writing articles for pay, and even taking surveys. The internet even has a whole lot of legitimate cash sweepstakes out there can can be taken advantage of. You could set up adsense websites, and if you have enough of them, you might actually make a buck. Or, your could just devote your time to a blog, and then, when you have lots of traffic, sell advertising space on it.
I know of one lady who travels around the world recording sounds of nature, and then she sells the recordings online. Pretty cool business. Keep your eyes open, and if you come across a unique way to make money online, let me know, I’m all ears!
Project Managers Need to Be Innovative as Well as Efficient
Feb 28th
Most project managers are going at full speed, with their hair on fire. It seems like there is too much to get done, and too little time. However, it’s just when you think you don’t have time, that taking a breather could be the most efficient thing to do.
You have systems already in place, and processes that have been used successfully time and time again. But, times always change, and technology moves on. Just because something was done a certain way in the past does not mean that it must be done that way forever. IT managers can pretty much depend on the fact that there is always a better was, if for no other reason than that something new has just been invented.
So, taking some time out to sit and review a process, to see it from a different perspective, just might reveal a new, or slightly different tack that will make the outcome better, faster, or easier for all concerned. Taking time at the beginning of a project to pause and think innovatively might make a difference in time, resources, and the quality of the finished project. Moving forward sometimes takes a little creative thinking.
Here’s a suggestion: When you are beginning a project that is familiar, something you’ve done before and think you have the perfect tools for, stop. Take some quiet time to think and look at the challenge from as many different angles as you can. Try to see it through new eyes with new perspective. Is there some way you could do things differently, upgrade, or include new innovations? Taking this time requires discipline, as project managers are always busy. But doing so just might make a positive difference in the final outcome.
Best Vacuum Ever- Dyson
Jan 17th
Dust. Dust, pollen, and pet hair. It’s everywhere, especially if you live in the South, with trees all around, and with 2 cats and a dog. Growing up, even with pets, I had no awareness of a dusty house, or pet hair everywhere. Then when I found myself with my own home, every day, new dusty surfaces to clean, not one day could go by without seeing it settle. I pondered this for a while, before remembering that my brother had had severe allergies when we were growing up. Hence, my parents had installed super-duper filters on the heating and air-conditioning systems, so that almost all of the offensive stuff was filtered out. Unfortunately I have no such system.
What I do have, however is a Dyson vacuum cleaner. I absolutely love my Dyson. I’ve lived with, tried and tested 4 or 5 of the ‘best” vacuums out there, but none even comes close to the contained tornado that the Dyson has. First time I used it I knew I’d fallen in love. I have one of the older models, the DV-14, and it still runs like a dream. I love the fact that it is so easy to maintain. Each part comes off intuitively, and easily without needing extra tools. It’s so simple to check for blockages (which, by the way very rarely happen) and emptying the dirt is a snap! Just position it over your trash can, put one loop, and it dumps right out. No bags, no backup, no mess.
Even so, I was impressed (once again) when we had a spill of ashes from the downstairs fireplace. Now, ashes are very fine indeed, and even a vacuum cleaner tends to “exhale” dust when it is that fine, or so I thought. Not my Dyson! It cleaned up every speck, with none escaping whatsoever. What a delight! There are very few appliances I’ve had in my life that I can count on like this one. Check it out folks, the very best vacuum out there- made by Dyson.
